Phlox, Pokemon, and Humic Acid

Looking back on the summer of gardening, I am not surprised that I haven't had the chance to blog since June. It's been a sunny, hot summer and all our efforts were spent making sure that the various garden beds were irrigated properly. Sara also did quite a bit of planting and garden design at another property of ours, more on that next spring when the garden will have spread to fill the boundaries.

There was our vacation in Hawaii, which occupied a lot of our time. Hedgehog is still very much into Pokemon, and there happened to be the World Championships of both the Video and the Trading Card Games, in Kona on the Big Island, so we threw caution to the wind and decided to fly off to Paradise.

It was a truly memorable event and the Resort it was held in was a magnificent location. The guests were ferried back and forth from the main lobby and parking by small boats or a monorail, both free of charge. Sunny lagoons with palm trees swaying in the ocean breezes, crystal clear pools and waterfalls, exotic birds and oriental as well as native Hawaiian art, not to mention the luau with robust native dancers and the traditional roast pig--we could not have picked a better place to spend ten days.

Luckily, a young neighbor volunteered to keep watering our gardens and the soaker hoses that Sara laid down really helped the efficient carrying out of this task. Nothing like a freshly plucked cherry tomato or strawberry from one's own garden! Not to mention cucumber, lettuce, squash, and snowpeas!

We made sure that our plants received an adequate supply of Organic Iguana Juice Bloom, as well as Humic and Fulvic Acids, before we left. Watering is great, but you also have to feed your plants. Can you imagine trying to raise your children just on water?
